What to expect in Madrid
Madrid runs on 230 V / 50 Hz with Type C and F sockets. Older apartments may have ungrounded sockets, so a Europlug is the safe fallback.
Power in Spain comes mainly from renewables, natural gas, nuclear. Grid reliability is described as good.
Good to know: Type E is extremely rare, but it may appear in some buildings, such as the University Carlos III of Madrid. Almost every Spanish plug would work on Type E sockets.
What to pack for Madrid
- A travel adapter with Type C and Type F on the socket side.
- A step-down converter if you are bringing 110 V appliances that are not marked 100–240 V.
- A device label check: anything marked 100–240 V needs the adapter, nothing else.
