What to expect in Cancun
Cancún uses American Type A and B plugs at 127 V / 60 Hz, like the rest of Mexico. Large resorts sometimes add 220 V outlets, so check the label by the desk before plugging in.
Power in Mexico comes mainly from natural gas, oil, hydro, wind. Grid reliability is described as moderate to good.
Good to know: Both 120/240 V split-phase and 127/220 V three-phase are used.
What to pack for Cancun
- A travel adapter with Type A and Type B on the socket side.
- A step-up transformer only if you are bringing 230 V appliances from Europe or Asia.
- A device label check: anything marked 100–240 V needs the adapter, nothing else.
